Msafiri Kondo, known professionally as Solo Thang, is a definitive voice in the history of Tanzanian rap. He first gained traction during the early 2000s through the Dar es Salaam club scene, eventually becoming a lead member of “Wateule.”Alongside his groupmates, he helped shift Bongo Flava from simple entertainment to a more thoughtful, lyrical art form. His music, spanning albums like “Homa ya Dunia,” and “Kilio Changu,” is best known for using sharp Swahili poetry to discuss the daily realities and political climate of his home country.
After establishing himself as a household name in East Africa, he moved to the United Kingdom to focus on his personal growth and formal education. While living abroad, he earned a degree in Business and successfully launched his clothing line, “I’M Travellah,” into the fashion world. This brand reflects his later musical identity and his experience as an artist living between two cultures. Today, he remains a respected elder statesman of the genre, blending his creative history with his work in international trade and design.
